UPDATE by daughter, Patricia Guzman Garcia
Eddie passed away on October 3, 2005, after receiving his liver transplant.
School
What can I say about high school that is bad. Not one thing!! I loved my years in high school, maybe because I was good at my favorite sport (track) plus I had a beautiful girlfriend all during school. I do wish I had gone out with more girls because there were so many opportunities that I didn't take advantage of. I am currently semi-retired due to some health complications. After high school I found that "Beer tasted better then Gatorade" and so I partied a little too much. Now I am on a liver transplant list and pray everyday that God gives me more days on this earth. If anyone has an extra liver laying around send it to me ASAP. Eddie
College
I went to college on a full 5 year track scholorship, but I lost it after 2 years due to exessive partying. I decided I wasn't made for college so I started working in auto parts. nish. We had children right away so it was hard to do but with her encouragement and her push, I finally made going a few hours at a time. I ended up graduating Cum Laude, after having been put on probation before. I give her all the credit in my life for the success we have enjoyed as a family. We will be married 30 years on January 4, 2005.
Workplace
I went to work in Sharyland after teaching for 12 years in Edinburg. I was given an opportunity to start a brand new program from scratch, and given free reign to do as I needed. Since I began the program in 1993, the program has now expanded to all the Elementary schools and the junior high and high school as well. The program involved teaching children directly from Mexico in a dual language. When I started the program I had a total of 25 3rd. -6th. grade students. Since then, people from Mexico have migrated to this area of the United States and the number of children now in the program exceeds 200 up to 300. I feel proud of what I did and I hope someday I can go back to the district and continue. It is very rewarding and these children really want to learn.
